Nymphalidae is a family of insects within the order Lepidoptera, class Insecta, and phylum Arthropoda. It belongs to the superfamily Papilionoidea. The taxon was described by Rafinesque in 1815 and holds an accepted status. Common names for the group include Edelfalter, Brush-footed butterfly, Takvingefamilien, and babočkovití.

Approximately 6,000 described species exist worldwide. Notable examples include the monarch butterfly, small red nymphalid, North American eye butterfly, silver-marked red butterfly, and large blue flash butterfly.
