En la antigüedad clásica, Océano (en griego antiguo Ώκεανός Ōkeanós u Ωγενος Ōgenos, literalmente ‘océano’; en latín Oceanus u Ogenus) se refería al océano mundial, que los griegos y romanos pensaban que era un enorme río que circundaba el mundo.
