thumb|A computer keyboard and mouse, a common type of computer peripheral A peripheral device, or simply peripheral, is an auxiliary hardware device that a computer uses to transfer information externally. A peripheral is a hardware component that is accessible to and controlled by a computer but is not a core component of the computer. It can communicate with a computer through wired or wireless connections. Many modern electronic devices, such as Internet-enabled digital watches, video game consoles, smartphones, and tablet computers, have interfaces for use as a peripheral.
A peripheral is an auxiliary hardware device that connects to a computer to help it send information outside or receive input from the user, such as a keyboard, mouse, or printer. Peripherals matter because they extend what a computer can do—allowing you to interact with it and access its data—even though they aren't essential core components of the computer itself.

Urządzenie peryferyjne (ang. peripheral device) – dowolna część komputera inna niż procesor (CPU) i pamięć operacyjna, czyli np. klawiatura, monitor, mysz, drukarka, skaner, napęd taśmowy, mikrofon, głośnik, aparat fotograficzny, joystick, manipulator 3D, kamera internetowa.
