Il genere Phasianus comprende una sola specie della famiglia dei fagiani, il fagiano comune, Phasianus colchicus, che ha trenta sottospecie riconosciute, ventinove sul continente asiatico e una sull'isola di Taiwan, al largo delle coste meridionali della Cina.
