تطويل
Sign in to savePleonasm (; , ) is redundancy in linguistic expression, such as "black darkness", "burning fire", or "the man he said". It is a manifestation of tautology by traditional rhetorical criteria. Pleonasm may also be used for emphasis, or because the phrase has become established in a certain form. Tautology and pleonasm are not consistently differentiated in literature.
Pleonasm is the use of redundant words in speech or writing, like saying "burning fire" or "black darkness" when one word would do. Writers may use it intentionally for emphasis or because certain phrases have become traditional, though it's often considered a flaw in clear communication.

التطويل عند أهل المعاني، ويقال له الحشو القبيح، هو أن يكون اللفظ زائدا على أصل المراد لا لفائدة ولا يكون اللفظ الزائد متعينا كقول عدي وألفى قولها كذبا ومينا بمعنى واحد ولا فائدة في الجمع بينهما فأحدهما زائد. فبقيد لا لفائدة خرج الإطناب ولا يكون متعينا خرج به الحشو لأن الزائد فيه متعين.
