Decoherentie is in de kwantummechanica het mechanisme waardoor de coherentie-eigenschappen van bepaalde kwantumtoestanden geheel of gedeeltelijk worden onderdrukt. Dit verschijnsel is met name van belang om processen in de klassieke natuurkunde te koppelen aan kwantummechanische processen.
