Rodrigo Duterte

Rodrigo Roa Duterte is a Filipino statesperson, jurist, and head of state. Born in Maasin in 1945, he served as the President of the Philippines and previously held the position of Mayor of Davao City. He is a member of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino and is ethnically Cebuano. His notable roles include his participation in the 2016 Philippine presidential election and his subsequent arrest.

Duterte was educated at San Beda University, Lyceum of the Philippines University, the University of the Philippines, and Ateneo de Davao University. He studied under Jose Maria Sison and identifies with deism and Christianity. He speaks Cebuano, Tagalog, and English. His family includes his spouse Elizabeth Zimmerman, his unmarried partner Honeylet Avanceña, and his children Sara, Paolo, and Sebastian Duterte. He is also known by the nicknames Rody and Digong.
