Schizothorax ist eine Gattung von Karpfenfischen aus Zentral- und Südasien. Ihr wissenschaftlicher Name ist gleichbedeutend mit „Spalt-Brust“ aus dem Griechischen schízeïn (σχίζειν) „spalten“ + thórax (θώραξ) „Brustplatte“ (siehe auch Thorax).
