Скеле́т (лат. skeleton ← др.-греч. σκελετός «высушенный») — относительно твёрдая или упругая структура в организме животных, дающая телу опору и защищающая его от механических повреждений. Древнейший известный организм, обладавший скелетом, — обитавшее на дне океана у южных берегов Австралии 550—560 миллионов лет назад губкоподобное существо .
