==Taxonomy== Stichaeus was first proposed as a monospecific genus in 1836 by Danish zoologist Johan Reinhardt with Blennius punctatus, which was described by Johan Christian Fabricius in 1780 from western Greenland, designated as the type species. This genus is classified within the subfamily Stichaeinae of the Zoarcoid family Stichaeidae.
