Die Swisscom AG ist das grösste Telekommunikationsunternehmen und eines der grössten IT-Unternehmen der Schweiz. Sie hat ihren Sitz in Ittigen und ist historisch neben der Schweizerischen Post die zweite Nachfolgeorganisation der staatlichen Post-, Telefon- und Telegrafenbetriebe (PTT). Gemäss eigenen Angaben verzeichnet die Swisscom in der Schweiz einen Marktanteil von 56 % im Mobilfunk- (Postpaid), 51 % im Breitband- und 37 % im TV-Bereich. Das Tochterunternehmen Fastweb hält im italienischen Breitbandnetz 16 % Marktanteil bei privaten Kunden und 29 % bei Unternehmen. Die Schweizerische Eidgenossenschaft hält eine Kapitalbeteiligung von 51,0 Prozent an der Swisscom.
