It is located on the European shoreline of the Bosphorus strait, between the neighbourhoods of Yeniköy and Kireçburnu. It is famous for its coastal fish restaurants. Lycée Français Pierre Loti d'Istanbul and Tarabya British Schools both have high school campuses in Tarabya.
