== Discovery and naming == The generic name, Thadeosaurus, is an anagram of "Datheosaurus", a synapsid genus to which fossils of the former were initially referred. The specific name, colcanapi, honors J.-M. Colcanap, a French infantry captain and the discoverer of the holotype specimen.
