Es handelt sich um einen weißen kristallinen Feststoff und ist ein Beispiel eines wasserlöslichen Phosphans. Der Rhodium-Hydrido-Komplexe der Verbindung findet als homogener Katalysator bei der technischen Herstellung von Butanal durch Hydroformylierung Verwendung.
