De vaatplanten (wetenschappelijke naam Tracheophyta of Tracheobionta) zijn landplanten (Embryophyta) met vaatbundels, een transportsysteem voor water. De benaming hogere planten geldt nog altijd als aanduiding voor de vaatplanten. Tot de vaatplanten worden alle polysporangiate embryophyten (oude naam: Cormophyta) gerekend, met uitzondering van de monosporangiate mossen, levermossen en hauwmossen. Het voornaamste transport in deze planten vindt in twee richtingen plaats met: * xyleem dat water en de daarin opgeloste mineralen naar het blad toe transporteert. * floëem dat assimilaten vanuit het blad naar de andere delen van de plant transporteert of vanuit de opslagweefsels naar de groeiende delen van de plant, zoals bij het uitlopen van een boom.
