OverviewAI-generated
A tree is a woody plant and phanerophyte, classified as a plant life-form and habitat. It is distinct from shrubs and the term Baum. The structure of a tree includes a trunk, branches, a tree crown, and roots. Trees are part of forests and the broader category of phanerophytes.
The subject is studied by forestry science and dendrology. It serves as a source of wood. Trees are described in sources such as the Armenian Soviet Encyclopedia, the Bible Encyclopedia of Archimandrite Nicephorus, the Brockhaus and Efron Encyclopedic Dictionary, and the Explanatory Dictionary of the Living Great Russian Language. In academic contexts, the query "tree" appears in 243,939 PubMed records.
Trees are referenced by 4,473 other encyclopedia articles. They are featured on the Wikipedia:List of articles all languages should have and Wikipedia:Vital articles/Level/4. The topic has a main category of Category:Trees and a Commons gallery titled Tree. The OpenStreetMap tag for this subject is natural=tree.
