Valdir Azevedo (Rio de Janeiro, 27 januari 1923 - Brasilia, 21 september 1980) was een Braziliaanse componist en cavaquinho-speler. Hij schreef in zijn leven 130 composities. Hij wordt door velen beschouwd als de eerste Braziliaanse cavaquinho- ooit.

Waldir Azevedo was born in Rio de Janeiro on the 27th of January 1923. Passed away on the 21st of Setember 1980. A "choro" pioneer, master of the "cavaquinho", and composer of the choro "Brasileirinho". Waldir was the first composer to place the cavaquinho (tiny 4 string guitar, smaller than a viola) into a leading role with complex solos.
