Walter Benjamin is a modern songwriter, just like the Modern Rock Song by Belle & Sebastian. He uses samplers and synths on his songs, along with a cheap acoustic guitar and a cheap sounding voice. Walter Benjamin was born in the spring, although he doesn't remember where. He is now a member of Goodbye Toulouse, the Lisbon based folk collective, where he plays synths and samplers. Walter Benjamin is actually a piano player although noone has ever seen him play the piano. Read more on Last.fm

Quotes
- “Nothing is so hateful to the philistine as the "dreams of his youth." ... For what appeared to him in his dreams was the voice of the spirit, calling him once, as it does everyone. It is of this that youth always reminds him, eternally and ominously. That is why he is antagonistic toward youth.”
- “Because he never raises his eyes to the great and the meaningful, the philistine has taken experience as his gospel. It has become for him a message about life's commonness. But he has never grasped that there exists something other than experience, that there are values—inexperienceable—which we serve.”
- “I would like to metamorphose into a mouse-mountain.”
- “Things are only mannequins and even the great world-historical events are only costumes beneath which they exchange glances with nothingness.”

Encyclopedic overview
Walter Bendix Schönflies Benjamin (/ˈbɛnjəmɪn/ BEN-yə-min; German: [ˈvaltɐ ˈbɛnjamiːn] ; 15 July 1892 – 26 September 1940) was a German philosopher, cultural critic, media theorist, and essayist. An eclectic thinker who combined elements of German idealism, Jewish mysticism, Western Marxism, and post-Kantianism, he made contributions to the philosophy of history, metaphysics, historical materialism, criticism, and aesthetics, and had an oblique but overwhelmingly influential impact on the resurrection of the Kabbalah by virtue of his life-long epistolary relationship with Gershom Scholem.
In popular culture and left-wing journalism he often appears as an exemplar whose experience is representative of the tragedy of German Jewish intellectuals under Nazi Germany.
