Als Amblyopie (von griechisch ἀμβλύς, ‚stumpf‘, und ὅψις, ‚Auge‘, ‚Gesicht‘, ‚Sehen‘) oder Schwachsichtigkeit (veraltet auch Blödsichtigkeit) wird die funktionale Sehschwäche eines oder seltener beider Augen bezeichnet, die auf einer unzureichenden Entwicklung des Sehsystems während der frühen Kindheit beruht. Das Ergebnis ist eine Beeinträchtigung der visuellen Wahrnehmung mit einer Verminderung der Sehschärfe, die nicht durch organische Fehler des Auges erklärt werden kann, und die auch bei optimaler optischer Korrektur mit Brille oder Kontaktlinsen fortbesteht.
