Der APACHE-Score beruht auf dem APACHE-Verfahren (Acute Physiology And Chronic Health Evaluation), einem auf Intensivstationen verwendeten Verfahren, zur Vorhersage der Überlebenswahrscheinlichkeit von Patienten einer Intensivstation. Dieses Scoring-System schließt dabei Angaben zum Alter des Patienten, aktuellen Befunden und anamnestischen Angaben ein.
