Berne (en allemand : Bern, en italien et en romanche : Berna ) est la capitale de facto de la Suisse et du canton homonyme, bien qu'elle ne soit que la cinquième plus grande ville de Suisse. La commune de Berne compte 141 156 habitants, l'agglomération bernoise 409 000 habitants et la région métropolitaine 660 000 habitants (septembre 2016). C'est une ville germanophone comprenant, à l'instar du canton, une minorité francophone. Elle est traversée par la rivière Aar et se situe à environ 30 km au nord des Alpes.
