Black Tern

The Black Tern (*Chlidonias niger*) is a species of bird within the family Laridae, order Charadriiformes, class Aves, and phylum Chordata. It belongs to the genus *Chlidonias*. The species was described by Linnaeus in 1758 and is recognized as an accepted taxon. Its common names include Trauerseeschwalbe, Fumarel común, and fumarell negre.

This bird inhabits both marine and freshwater environments. Its range extends across Brazil, South America, and Africa. The Black Tern has a wingspan of 0.539 and a mass of 60. According to the 2019 IUCN Red List assessment, its global conservation status is Least Concern, although it holds a regional conservation status of Vulnerable.
