The film was released theatrically in China on 30 January 2008 and in Hong Kong on 31 January 2008.
A poor construction worker, who struggles to keep his son in private school, mistakes an orb he finds in a junkjard for a toy which proves to be much, much more once the young boy starts to play with it.

In August 2007, the film was given the title CJ7, a play on China's successful Shenzhou crewed space missions—Shenzhou 5 and Shenzhou 6. It was previously known by a series of working titles including and most notably A Hope. The film was filmed in Ningbo, in the Zhejiang province of China.
