Sign in to saveCuello is a Maya archaeological site in northern Belize. The site is that of a farming village with a long occupational history. It was originally dated to 2000 BC, but these dates have now been corrected and updated to around 1200 BC. Its inhabitants lived in pole-and-thatch houses that were built on top of low plaster-coated platforms. The site contains residential groups clustered around central patios. Cuello est un site archéologique maya de l'Époque préclassique situé dans le district d'Orange Walk au Belize, sur une crête entre le Rio Hondo et la New River. Son importance découle à la fois de son ancienneté et de la minutie des fouilles menées par Norman Hammond dans les années 1970 à 1980, qui en font un des sites mayas les mieux documentés pour le Préclassique ancien.
