Efim Zelmanov

Efim Zelmanov is a mathematician and university teacher who has held positions at the University of California, San Diego, the University of Chicago, Southern University of Science and Technology, and Yale University. Born on September 7, 1955, in Khabarovsk, he holds citizenship in the Soviet Union and the United States. He was educated at Novosibirsk State University and speaks Russian and English.

His field of work includes algebra, group theory, Jordan algebra, and mathematics, with notable work on Burnside's problem. Zelmanov received the Fields medal. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Mathematical Society, and the Royal Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences.
