Der Kopf oder das Haupt (lateinisch caput; altgriechisch κεφαλή kephalē) ist der vordere Bereich des Körpers bei Tieren und Menschen. Am Kopf liegen um die Mundöffnung mit den Mundwerkzeugen verschiedene der Nahrungsaufnahme dienende Organe sowie wichtige Fernsinnesorgane des Riechens, Sehens, Hörens und des Gleichgewichtssinns. Im Inneren des Kopfes liegen wesentliche Teile des Zentralnervensystems (ZNS). Ein eigentlicher Kopf ist – im Unterschied zum bloßen Kopfende – deutlich vom restlichen Körper, dem Rumpf, abgesetzt; ein hier eingeschnürter Abschnitt wird als Hals bezeichnet.
