Leo X

Giovanni di Lorenzo de' Medici, later known as Leo X, was a male member of the House of Medici born on December 11, 1475. He was the son of Lorenzo de' Medici and Clarice Orsini and had siblings including Piero the Unfortunate, Giuliano de' Medici, Duke of Nemours, Maddalena de' Medici, and Lucrezia de' Medici. Educated at the University of Pisa, he studied under Dimitrios Chalkokondyles and Filippo Decio.

He served as a Latin Catholic priest, Catholic priest, Pope, protonotary apostolic, abbot, and cardinal-deacon. His work locations included Rome, the Papal States, and Pisa, where he held citizenship in the Papal States. He was consecrated by Raffaele Riario and is recognized in the Popes collection. He died in Rome on December 1, 1521, and was buried in Santa Maria sopra Minerva. His works are held in the collections of the Städel Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
