Meret Oppenheim

Meret Oppenheim was a German and Swiss photographer, lyricist, painter, and model. Born in Berlin in 1913, she was educated at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière and spoke German. Her artistic output included works in the genres of Dada, nude, and assemblage, and she was associated with the surrealist movement. She worked in painting, jewelry, and jewelry design, with notable works including *Object*.

Oppenheim resided in Paris, Basel, Thun, and Bern, and worked in Steinen, Paris, Basel, and Bern. She was the unmarried partner of Max Ernst and participated in the event Baise and documenta 7. Her works are held in the collections of the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, the Museum of Modern Art, the National Gallery of Art, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

She died in Basel on November 15, 1985, and is buried in Carona. Her archives are located at the Swiss Literary Archives.
