Moshe Idel

Moshe Idel is a male historian, philologist, university teacher, and philosopher born in Târgu Neamț in 1947. He holds citizenship in Romania and Israel and speaks Hebrew and Romanian. Idel earned his Doctor of Philosophy degree from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where his doctoral advisor was Shlomo Pines. He also studied at the University of Haifa. His academic work focuses on biblical studies and philosophy.

Idel has served as an employee at Harvard University and is a member of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities. His doctoral student is Haviva Pedaya. He has received several awards, including the Israel Prize, Bialik Prize, The EMET Prize for Art, Science and Culture, and the Rothschild Prize. His notable works include Ḳabalah, Minḥah le-Śarah, Chaînes enchantées, Avraham Abulʻafyah, and Mesianism şi misticǎ.
