Octopodidae

The Octopodidae are a family containing the majority of known octopus species (about 175 species).

Two fossil genera are also known: Styletoctopus from the Late Cretaceous (Cenomanian) of the Sannine Formation in Lebanon, and Bolcaoctopus from the Early Eocene (Ypresian) of Monte Bolca, Italy.
