A paca (from Tupí paka) is a member of the genus Cuniculus of ground-dwelling, herbivorous rodents in South and Central America. It is the only genus in the family Cuniculidae. Pacas are large rodents with dots and stripes on their sides, short ears, and barely visible tails. Pacas are eaten by people in Belize, where they are known as "gibnut" and, having been served to Queen Elizabeth II, "the royal rat". In the Amazon basin they are known as "majás". 無尾刺豚鼠亦稱斑點豚鼠(spotted cavy),是刺豚鼠科(Dasyproctidae)無尾刺豚鼠屬(Cuniculus)的齧齒動物,有2種。原產於中美和南美。棲息於近水的森林地區。外形似刺豚鼠(agouti),但吻部較大,體有淺色斑點和水平線紋。

パカ(スペイン語: paca)は、齧歯目(ネズミ目)パカ属に属する動物の総称である。中南米の熱帯・亜熱帯地方に住み、体重は6-12kgと、齧歯類にしては大型である。 しばしば使われる学名のシノニムにアグーチ Agouti があるが、アグーチ (agouti) Dasyprocta とは異なる。 パカ科唯一の属とされる。アグーチ科 (Dasyproctidae) をパカ科に(あるいはパカ科をアグーチ科に)含める説もあるが、実際にはパカはアグーチ科とは遠くテンジクネズミ科に近縁と思われる。 明治期に出版された博物学の教科書『具氏博物学』の中で頬獣という漢字が当てられている。
