Paul Gilroy

Paul Gilroy is a British sociologist, university teacher, and cultural studies scholar born in 1956. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy and was advised by Stuart Hall during his doctoral studies. His academic career includes teaching positions at Yale University, the London School of Economics and Political Science, King's College London, and Goldsmiths, University of London. He was educated at the University of Sussex and the University of Birmingham.

Gilroy is a member of the British Academy and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, where he is recognized in the American Academy Arts Sciences collection. He has received the American Book Awards, the Fellow of the British Academy distinction, and the Holberg International Memorial Prize. He speaks English and is the son of Beryl Gilroy. His doctoral student is Richard Seymour.
