Quart

Also known as qt

The quart (symbol: qt) is a unit of volume equal to a quarter of a gallon. Three kinds of quarts are currently used: the liquid quart and dry quart of the US customary system and the of the British imperial system. All are roughly equal to one liter. It is divided into two pints or (in the US) four cups. Historically, the size of a quart has varied with the different values of gallons over time, and in the case of the dry quart, in reference to different commodities.

Alla quart är här lika med en kvarts gallon, 2 pint. I anglo-amerikanska matrecept kan man utgå från att 1 cup motsvarar ungefär (växlande definitioner i olika länder) en fjärdedels quart = en halv pint, vilket ligger mellan de traditionella svenska "köksmåtten" kaffekopp (kkp) och tekopp (tkp). Quarter, förkortat qr, är * ett engelskt rymdmått för torra varor (t. ex. spannmål) = 8 = 64 gallons = 290,9 liter, * en handelsvikt = 1/4 hundredweight = 2 stones = 28 pounds = 12,7 kg * ett längdmått = 1/4 yard = 228,6 mm.
