Saul Perlmutter

Saul Perlmutter is an American physicist, astronomer, and professor specializing in astrophysics. Born in Champaign in 1959, he was educated at Harvard University and the University of California, Berkeley. He has served as a professor at the University of California, Berkeley, where he also resides. Perlmutter’s doctoral advisor was Richard A. Muller.

He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Astronomical Society, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Perlmutter has received the Nobel Prize in Physics, the Ernest Orlando Lawrence Award, and the John Scott Award. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
