Trithrinax

Sie sind bewehrt und blühen mehrmals. Der Stamm ist aufrecht und mit den ausdauernden, faserigen, teils stacheligen Blattscheiden bedeckt. Die Blätter sind fächerförmig, induplicat (v-förmig) gefaltet und vertrocknen an der Pflanze. Die Blattscheide ist röhrig und trocknet zu einem faserigen, teils verholzten Netzwerk ein; die oberen Fasern wandeln sich zu steifen Stacheln um. Die Blattspreite ist fächerförmig bis fast kreisrund, sie ist nicht oder nur wenig costapalmat (Blattstiel reicht in die Spreite hinein). Die Spreite ist in zahlreiche, einfach gefaltete, steife Segmente zerteilt. Die Blattoberseite ist kahl, die Unterseite ist mit Wachs bedeckt und behaart. Der Blütenstand steht einzeln und zwischen den Blättern. Er ist eher kurz bis mittelgroß, creme-farben und dreifach verzweigt. Der Blütenstandsstiel ist kurz. Trithrinax is a genus of flowering plants in the subfamily Coryphoideae of the family Arecaceae. The name is derived from ancient Greek, where tri means three, and thrinax trident. It was named in 1837 by Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius, a German botanist and explorer.
Trithrinax species are spiny fan palms native to South America. They are resistant to cold, heat, wind, drought, poor soils and other adverse environmental conditions. Seeds germinate fast, but their overall growth rate is distinctly slow.
