AI overview

A tumulus is an ancient mound of earth or stone built over a burial site, often constructed for important figures like kings and used across many cultures and time periods. These structures matter to archaeologists and historians because they provide evidence of past civilizations, their burial practices, and the people they memorialized, though many have been lost to quarrying and agricultural development over the centuries.
