タイプライター(英語: typewriter)とは、文字盤を打鍵することで活字を紙に打ち付け、文字を印字する機械。筆記業務の高速化、各種原稿の清書といった目的で使用され、カーボン紙を挟んで複数枚の紙に同時に印字することで文書の複写もできたことから、会社での事務や個人の文章作成など幅広く使われた。 装置内部に打鍵した文字列が記録され、印字前に修正可能なものはワードプロセッサーとも呼ばれるが、区分は曖昧である。
