O Paleolítico Superior é um conceito que abrange o fim do Paleolítico Médio e início do Neolítico. Nele foram encontrados anzóis primitivos, bifaces, machados de mão, agulha de osso, entre outros. É também caracterizado pela arte rupestre. Outros dois grandes avanços foram o desenvolvimento da agricultura e a domesticação dos animais. Cultivando a terra e criando animais, o homem conseguiu diminuir sua dependência com relação à natureza. Com esses avanços, foi possível a sedentarização, pois a habitação fixa tornou-se uma necessidade. Neste período ocorreu também a divisão do trabalho por sexo dentro das comunidades. Enquanto o homem ficou responsável pela proteção e sustento das famílias, a mulher ficou encarregada de criar os filhos e cuidar da habitação.
