Der Zurückgebogene Amarant (Amaranthus retroflexus), auch Zurückgekrümmter Fuchsschwanz oder Rauhaariger Amarant genannt, ist eine Pflanzenart innerhalb der Familie der Fuchsschwanzgewächse (Amaranthaceae). Er ist in Mitteleuropa ein häufiges, wärmeliebendes „Unkraut“ in Mais- und Zuckerrübenfeldern, in Haus- und Gemüsegärten sowie in Weinbergen. Rauhaariger Amarant (Amaranthus retroflexus) Der Rauhaarige Amarant wächst als einjährige krautige Pflanze, die Wuchshöhen von 15 cm bis 100 cm (meist 30 bis 40 cm) erreicht. Der aufrechte und meist aufrecht abstehend verzweigte Stängel ist flaumig-zottig bis kurz behaart und manchmal insbesondere im unteren Teil mit rötlichen Streifen überlaufen. Die Farbe der oberirdischen Pflanzenteile kann blass-grün, grasgrün oder bläulichgrün sein. Der obere Teil der bis einen Meter tiefen, dicken Wurzel ist oft rötlich oder rosafarben gefärbt.

Amaranthus retroflexus is a species of flowering plant in the family Amaranthaceae with several common names, including red-root amaranth, redroot pigweed, red-rooted pigweed, common amaranth, pigweed amaranth, and common tumbleweed.
Outside of its native range, it is considered a weed. Leaves, stems and seeds may be eaten raw and cooked, the leaves have a high nutritional value. When grown on nitrogen-rich soils they are known to concentrate nitrates in the leaves, especially noticeable on land where nitrate fertilizer is used.
