Bashar Hafiz al-Asad, in arabo: بشار حافظ الأسد, Baššār Ḥāfiẓ al-Asad, [baʃˈʃaːɾ ˈħaːfɪzˁ alˈʔasad], (Damasco, 11 settembre 1965), è un politico e militare siriano, attuale presidente della Siria e Mushīr delle forze armate siriane. Personaggio internazionale noto e controverso, è stato designato come successore dal padre Hafiz al-Assad ed ha governato la nazione dal 17 luglio 2000. Numerosi analisti sostengono che il governo della famiglia al-Assad sulla Siria sia un regime dittatoriale. Nelle elezioni presidenziali in Siria del 2000 e del 2007, in cui era l'unico candidato, ha ricevuto rispettivamente il 97,29% e il 97,6% dei voti totali. Assad è stato riconfermato presidente nel 2014 ottenendo l'88,7% dei voti e nel 2021 ottenendo il 95,1% dei voti.
