Boris Asafyev

Boris Asafyev was a Soviet composer, choreographer, musicologist, and conductor born in Saint Petersburg in 1884. He studied at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory, where he was also employed. His professional activities included music composition, musicology, and music criticism, primarily within the classical music genre. He performed on the piano and wrote in Russian. Asafyev also used the pseudonyms Игорь Глебов and Igor' Glebov.

Asafyev received several awards, including the Stalin Prize, the Order of Lenin, the title of People's Artist of the USSR, and the Order of the Red Banner of Labour. He was a member of the Union of Soviet Composers and the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. His citizenship included the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union. He authored the work *A Book About Stravinsky*, translated by Richard F. French. Asafyev died in Moscow on January 27, 1949, and is buried at Novodevichy Cemetery.
