The breadbasket of a country or of a region is an area which, because of the richness of the soil and/or advantageous climate, produces large quantities of wheat or other grain. Rice bowl is a similar term used to refer to Southeast Asia; California's Salinas Valley is sometimes referred to as America's salad bowl. Kornbod (på engelska breadbasket eller granary) kallas en region som på grund av goda jord- eller väderförutsättningar producerar ett stort överskott av jordbruksprodukter. Exempel på områden som kallats kornbod är Ukraina och Skåne. Termen har även använts i överförd betydelse om en plats där något annat skapas eller uppstår i oproportionerligt stor utsträckning, exempelvis religiös fundamentalism.
