Dniepr (ukr. Дніпро, Dnipro) – miasto w środkowo-wschodniej części Ukrainy, na obu brzegach Dniepru i u ujścia Samary. Na początku 2021 r., z liczbą 980 948 mieszkańców, Dniepr zajmował 4. miejsce wśród najludniejszych ukraińskich miast. Stolica obwodu dniepropetrowskiego. W latach 1787–1796 oraz 1802–1926 miasto nosiło nazwę Jekaterynosław (ros. Екатеринослав, Jekatierinosław; ukr. Катеринослав, Katerynosław), w latach 1796–1802 Noworosyjsk (ros. Новороссийск, Noworossijsk; ukr. Новоросійськ, Noworosijśk), w latach 1926–2016 Dniepropetrowsk; (ukr. Дніпропетровськ, Dnipropetrowśk; ros. Днепропетровск, Dniepropietrowsk). W mieście znajdują się znaczący węzeł kolejowy, metro, międzynarodowy port lotniczy, port nad Dnieprem. Jest to jeden z głównych ośrodków przemysłowych i kulturalno-naukowych Ukrainy. Funkcjonuje hutnictwo żelaza, , maszynowy, elektromaszynowy, chemiczny, spożywczy, obuwniczy, drzewny, duża elektrownia cieplna. W czasach sowieckich miało status miasta zamkniętego ze względu na jedną z najważniejszych fabryk rakiet w ZSRR (Jużmasz/Piwdenmasz). W 1918 r., przy znaczącym udziale Polaków, m.in. prof. Wincentego Tomaszewicza i prof. Władysława Dzierżyńskiego (lekarzy; W. Dzierżyński krótko, ok. roku, był jego prorektorem) utworzono obecny Dnieprzański Uniwersytet Narodowy im. Ołesia Honczara (wydział lekarski). Jego absolwentem jest późniejszy premier (1992–1993) i prezydent Ukrainy (1994–2005) – Łeonid Kuczma.
