Fontinalis

The genus is widespread in the Northern Hemisphere and includes both species that occur in still water and in flowing water.

Fontinalis (Hedw., 1899) è un genere di muschi acquatici subacquei appartenenti alla sottoclasse dei . Le specie appartenenti a questo genere di muschi, chiamati anche "muschi d'acqua", tanto che la specie più famosa di questo genere, ossia la Fontinalis antipyretica, è comunemente chiamata proprio "muschio d'acqua", sono diffuse in tutto l'emisfero boreale e includono sia organismi che vivono in ambienti lentici, ossia con acqua stagnante, sia organismi che vivono in ambienti lotici, ossia con acqua corrente.
