Bactrachoseps campi are a nocturnal species and have large protruding eyes that aid in night vision. The nasolabial groove between the salamanders' nostril and upper lip is used to help pick up chemical information from the environment. It has been suggested that members of the Batrachoseps genus may have the ability to communicate using chemical communication as well. Other species within the Batrachoseps genus have had their ability to communicate and differentiate between species documented by research, but little is known about the communication and perception of B. campi. The use of pheromones and other chemical cues likely play a large roll in communication and environmental perception by Inyo Mountains slender salamanders. Communication Channels: visual ; tactile ; chemical Other Communication Modes: pheromones ; scent marks Perception Channels: visual ; tactile ; chemical
