1848 Our vigorous prose writer (great friend of Eminescu) is born in the year of the Revolution, at Siria, on January 18. He is the second child of the furrier Sava Slavici and Elena, born Borlea. 1854-1858 Goes to "Greek-Orthodoxe" school from his village, having D. Vostinari as teacher. 1859-1860 Repeats the 4th class, to be able go to highschool. 1860-1865 Highschool in Arad, being hosted like his heroes from Budulea Taichii. 1865-1867 6th and 7th class at the Piarist highschool

Ioan Slavici, född 18 januari 1848 i Șiria, död 17 augusti 1925 i , var en rumänsk författare. Slavici studerade i Budapest och Wien och slog sig 1876 ned i Bukarest, där han utgav tidskriften "Vatra". Han författade skådespel (däribland komedin Fata de Birau, Bydomarens dotter, 1870, och sorgespelet Gaspar Graziani 1888) och novellsamlingen Novele din popor (Bynoveller, 1881). Dessutom skrev han Die Rumänen in Ungarn, Siebenbürgen und der Bukowina och utgav tillsammans med Documente privitoare la istoria românilor. På svenska finns novellen "Byskvallret" i "Från Rumänien" (1895).
