Als Lactone bezeichnet man in der organischen Chemie heterocyclische Verbindungen, die innerhalb des Moleküls eine Esterbindung, d. h. eine Sauerstoffbrücke, enthalten und direkt am selben Kohlenstoffatom eine Carbonylgruppe aufweisen. Es handelt sich um intramolekulare, cyclische Ester von Hydroxycarbonsäuren.
