Max Scheler

Max Scheler was a German philosopher, anthropologist, university teacher, and sociologist. Born in Munich in 1874, he worked in Cologne and Munich. He was educated at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Friedrich Schiller University Jena, and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. His professional career included positions at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, University of Göttingen, Friedrich Schiller University Jena, and University of Cologne. His field of work was phenomenology, and he was influenced by Edmund Husserl.

Scheler wrote in German and identified with the Catholic Church. His notable works include *El saber y la culture*, *Esencia y formas de la simpatía*, *Ausgleich als Aufgabe und Schicksal*, *宇宙における人間の地位*, and *Mort et survie*. He died in Frankfurt in 1928. He is buried at the Cologne Southern Cemetery, and his archives are held at the Bavarian State Library.
