Олимпия де Гуж

Olympe de Gouges, born Marie Gouze in Montauban, was a French playwright, journalist, philosopher, and writer. She was active in the fields of abolitionism and feminism, writing primarily in French. Her notable work includes the *Declaration of the Rights of Woman and the Female Citizen*. Other works attributed to her include *Moliere chez Ninon, ou Le siècle des grands hommes, pièce episodique* and *Action héroique d'une francoise, ou, La France sauvée par les femmes*.

De Gouges spoke French and Occitan, with Occitan being her native language. She held French citizenship and identified as a deist. Her archives are held at the Atria Institute on gender equality and women's history. She died in Paris on 3 November 1793, following capital punishment.
