Sign in to savePitha (; also called pithe) are a variety of food similar to pancakes, dumplings or fritters, originating from India and Bangladesh. Pitha can be sweet or savoury, and usually made from a dough or batter, which is then steamed, fried or griddled. Very few varieties are oven-baked or boiled, and most are unleavened and cooked on a stovetop (or equivalent). Some versions may have a filling, garnish, or sauce. Few may be set or shaped after cooking. They are typically eaten as a snack with chai, or as treats during special occasions (similar to mithai).

La Pitha ((AS) পিঠা, (BN) পিঠ, (OR) ପିଠା piṭha) o Pithe ((BN) পিঠে piṭhe) è una sorta di pane dolce, servito come spuntino o dessert, facente parte delle cucine bengalesi ed indiane e diffuso in tutta l'Asia meridionale, in particolar modo negli stati di Assam, Orissa, Bengala Occidentale, Bihar, Jharkhand, e tutte le regioni a nordest dell'India. Le pithe sono tipicamente a base di farina di riso, anche se se ne trovano con farina di frumento. Più raramente si trovano pitha a base di farina di palma o di ol, una farina ricavata da una radice commestibile locale.
